TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Student Observing: Special Education Life Skills Classroom
Lower Dauphin High School, Hummelstown, PA Sept. 2017 - Dec. 2017
Observed three separate Special Education classes : Life Skills, Autism, Learning Support (Math)
In the Learning Support classroom, I helped students who were struggling with their math problems by re-explaining the problem more in depth, indirectly helping them figure out the answers they need.
Student Observer: Seventh Grade English
Lower Dauphin Middle School, Hummelstown, PA Feb. 2017 – May 2017
Assisted cooperating teacher by checking student’s homework for required written information.
Helped organize student’s speech rubrics in order of day of week, class period and speech presentation day.
Helped students by explaining parts of “Ulysses” (the book they were reading) when they didn’t understand.
Assisted cooperating teacher in adding up grades for student’s speeches.
Student Observer: Seventh Grade Science
Lower Dauphin Middle School, Hummelstown, PA November 2016
Assisted students by walking around, observing and referring them back to their directions sheet and/or explaining in more depth the next step if they were still confused
Assisted cooperating teacher by helping set up for next set of students (next class period) and organizing the materials needed for the lab
Questioned students if they were understanding the lab procedure- if not, I offered more explanation to hopefully inform them so they did not miss or mess up the next step
Student Observer: Preschool: yrs. 3-5
Elizabethtown Child Care Center, Elizabethtown, PA October 2016
I helped watch the kids when we went outside for play time. One child picked up a stick and I convinced them to put down the stick and go find a toy to play with instead without having to go to my cooperating teacher.
I also kept order in a group of children who all wanted to play T-ball but there was only one tee, one bat, and two balls. Even though they got impatient sometimes I calmed them down and made them share and take turns with one another.
I helped the cooperating teacher by distributing snack out to all of the children, asking what they wanted to eat and then dismissing them to get up, throw their leftovers away and go play.
Student Observer: Ninth Grade
Lower Dauphin High School, Hummelstown, PA Sept. 2016 – Oct. 2016
Observed the teacher teach Chemistry through administering small individual quizzes and/or group quizzes where they had to work as a team to come up with the correct answers.
Observed the students participate in an online simulation of choosing between learning as through playing a game or watching a video. Then they had to fill out a worksheet on what they learned.
Observed my cooperating teacher divide up the students into groups around the room and then they had to answer the question on the board by discussing in their groups and then writing the answer on the group’s whiteboard, then one student was chosen from each group to explain how their group came up with their answer
RELATED EXPERIENCE
After-School-Program Teacher
U-GRO Daycare Program June 2018-present
- I work with students, ages five to ten, from six different elementary schools.
- UGRO provides a Kindergarten Program within the daycare system. I work with the Kindergarten students at the end of their school day.
I get the School-Age students off four separate buses each afternoon.
I supervise and monitor the students, making sure each student has an afternoon snack.
I develop schedules and routines to ensure that the students have enough physical activity, rest, and playtime
I plan fun learning activities for the students to participate in to further enhance their learning.
I watch for signs of emotional or developmental problems in the students and try to solve present conflicts that may arise then bring the problems to the attention of parents.
After the students get picked up by their parents I clean the designated room for the School-Age students as well as the Kindergarten room. This includes sweeping, spraying down the tables and chairs, taking out the trash, gathering up the recycling and taking the left-over snack back to the kitchen.
