MLK Jr Commemoration

On Wednesday, January 17, I attended the MLK Jr Commemoration by Nathan Coleman. The purpose of Coleman's speech was to share insights on Dr. King's approach to social justice and challenge the audience to think about current social justice issues. At one point during the speech, he made a special point about MLK Day. He mentioned how many people think of MLK Day as a day to remember Martin Luther King Jr. Although this is not a bad thing, he said that he believes we should spend the day coming all together to work and serve the community, in order to demonstrate what MLK Jr wanted. Overall, this speech allowed me to think critically about current social justice issues and inspired me to be the change I wish to see in the world.
