This discrepant event demonstration engages sixth-grade students in a lesson on static electricity. Throughout each part of the demonstration, the teacher uses questions to guide students towards a final conclusion. The questions specifically target common misconceptions. As the teacher provides feedback, the students correct their misconceptions and construct a new understanding of the event. When the students reach the correct explanation, the teacher summarizes the event and provides additional background information.
