Below is a link to my 2015 Fall Semester Fieldwork Report that I had turned in for my ED 105 class. The report compares and contrasts my experiences at the three different placements I had in the ED 105 course.

In my placement for ED 151 I have observed the classroom setting. I have the placement in the Manheim Township Middle School in Manheim, PA. My cooperating teacher is Mr. Booker, a seventh and eighth grade Social Studies teacher. His room has posters of historical events and people as well as posters of beautiful places around the world since his one class is world history and culture. There are also posters that he creates or edits himself, the posters showing him doing crazy or unbelievable things. Many of the posters as well as the assignment section of the black board and the no name bin have pictures and paraphrased quotes from Beyoncé. There are also humorous items in his room such as an eraser that says “FOR BIG MISTAKES” and a water bottle that says “Tears of My Students”. The room is colorful and interesting. It expresses his fun loving personality and also has interesting historical facts/significance that help the children learn. This shows me the importance of creating a comfortable atmosphere for the students while keeping it modern and interesting.

My placement for SED 222 was an autism support room at Elizabethtown-Area High School in Pennsylvania. My cooperating teacher is Mrs. Ferenczy in the IU13 room. Aside from the teacher, there are various student aides working in the room, as well as special services like physical and occupational therapists that come in. The room is decorated colorfully with a lot of art by the students being hung up on the walls. This room is similar to an early or middle education classroom compared to typical high school classrooms. There are two rocking chairs and a small carpeted area where a small bookshelf full of children's tales are kept; some of the students enjoy reading while others love solely rocking in the chairs. Each student has a coat rack with their name on it and they have a small sink where the students wash their hands before and after snack. Snack foods and most food in general are kept up out of reach or are stored in the fridge, which has a large red STOP sign on it. The room has sharp objects out of sight and out of reach for the safety of all the students. There is also a work-out bike in the corner of the room to be used when a student wants something to do or needs to calm down. I find the posters on the walls to be rather cute and inviting. Overall, the room is designed to fit the needs of the students, as well as to appeal to them visually and bring about an atmosphere of comfort and happiness.
