Direct Instruction Lesson Plan:

This lesson plan was created and designed based on the needs of the second grader who was, at the time, struggling with reading comprehension.  This explicit instruction lesson plan focused on directly teaching my student how to summarize a story using his hand as a visual aid to represent the six story elements needed in a summary.  Because of this student’s background, constantly discussing what was being addressed and questioning what was introduced was necessary for his success.
