"The Race Card Project"  Lecture Reflection

On February 28th, 2017, I attended a lecture hosted by author and former NPR host, Michele Norris. Norris talked about her program called "The Race Card Project" that encourages people of all nationalities and backgrounds to first tell their stories regarding race in just 6 words. This all came to be when she heard the stories of her African American father growing up in the United States during times of segregation and hatred towards people of color. With this project, Norris wants to get people to share their unheard stories and ideas about race.

From this lecture, I have learned that as an educator I must know that people come from all types of backgrounds. Some backgrounds that I may never have thought existed. I also must keep an open ear for students who do wish to tell me about their backgrounds and never judge or discriminate against students.
