Description of Visio Classroom Set Up

Organizing Physical Space:

Visio Classroom Layout: My classroom layout, created based on Steele’s Six Functions, shows the room arranged in tables to create a cooperative learning environment.  The room will provide security and shelter by fostering a carpeted in a corner where students may work quietly or read.  It will provide space that encourages social contact because students will work at tables and share lockers/cubbies.  In addition, task instrumentality will allow for ease of mobility and multi-purpose space.  Students will also be learning in a room which has functions of symbolic identification.  The set-up of this room will promote pride and a sense of ownership in learning because students will be responsible for taking care of their individual space.  This classroom set-up also promotes a pleasurable learning space where students can focus on the learning taking place.  Finally, student growth will be fostered due to the use of activity centers that allow for students to develop at an individual pace.
