Fraction Manipulative Lesson Reflection

5th Grade Math - Fractions: I communicated with students in large and small groups during a lesson on choosing the best manipulative to solve addition problems with fractions.  The purpose of choosing the best method to solve word problems was made clear to all students.  A new manipulative, the "Hershey bar" manipulative, was introduced to all students to link their demographic interests with a math concept, showing imaginative connections to the content.  Clear directions were explained in small groups so that they knew to choose and use the best manipulative to solve word problems on adding fractions.  Careful monitoring and communication in small groups allowed me to address and clear misconceptions.  Students were invited to share their manipulative choice with peers and show how they completed the given problems.
