This is a reflection that I wrote for my Special Education 200-level course after watching the documentary "United States of Autism" as part of the Social Justice requirement.

As a part of the SED 222 course, I participated in a community service learning project where I, along with two of my colleagues, visited Phoebe Roe's house once a week to work with her. We planned a variety of activities for Phoebe to do that help her with her shapes, letters, and numbers. Some of the things we have did include a shape scavenger hunt around her house, painting, using play-doh to promote sensory awareness, and as well as played matching games. Phoebe has Down Syndrome, so we try to incorporate a lot of movement in the activities we plan to improve her fine motor skills and sensory processing. Phoebe responds extremely well to movement and sensory stimulation. Photographs of what we have done with Phoebe can be viewed in the Gallery section of my e-portfolio.
