How Things Work:

 

This course introduces students to several concepts (qualitatively – largely non-mathematical) in physics related to commonly used technology and processes experienced in daily life. Topics covered have included Motion (Skating, Ramps, Wheels), Mechanics (Scales, Bumper Cars, Hitting a Baseball, Bicycles), Fluids (Throwing a Curveball, Airplanes), Thermodynamics (Heaters, Automobiles), Oscillations (Clocks, Musical Instruments), Electricity (Static Electricity, Flashlights), Magnets (Electric Motors, speakers), Radio Waves (Radio communications, Microwave ovens), and Electronics (Power Adaptors, Audio Players). Course includes a hands-on component each week.
