This course focuses on engineering design as a process, and highlights the methodolgy behind design projects including all factors that affect the final solution. This includes topics such as problem recognition; customer needs identification, determining specifications, concept generation and evaluation/selection, life cycle design, and design for the environment. Students are exposed to the formal tools required to generate design solutions, and practice applying these tools through multidisciplinary design projects. For most students this project will become the senior project completed through EGR491 and/or EGR492.
This course will be hosted in Blackboard.
A short video of a classroom presentation on the importance of carefully framing the problem is available here.
