The Very Hungry Caterpillar: Student Teaching (3e)

In my Multiple Disabilities classroom, our teacher has created several opportunities for our students to interact with children outside of our classroom. Each week, second grade students come into our classroom to participate in Reading Buddies.

In this activity, our students have the opportunity to read the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar to our second grade students. Our students read the story by pressing a voice output communication device, whether it be on their own or through hand-over-hand technique. Modifications are given in the lesson plan based on the student. After reading the story, the students had the opportunity to participate in a cooking activity in which the students used all of the fruit in the story to make their individual fruit salads. With the students in this classroom, cooking is a great opportunity for the students to use gross motor skills as well as the sense of touch.
