Science Discrepant Event

During my science methods course, we had the opportunity to demonstrate a discrepant event. The discrepant event that I chose was the fact that similar materials may sink or float in different liquids. The concept of a discrepant event is based upon the 5 E model of instruction. By introducing the lesson with a discrepant event, the students are automatically engaged in their learning because they are interested in figuring out why the seemingly impossible just happened in front of their eyes.
