Long Vowel Lesson Plan

When the topic of long vowels came up in the curriculum during my student teaching, I knew I needed a creative way to teach the concept. While reviewing my students' writing pieces and listening to them read, I knew this was one skill that they had not yet mastered. To solve this, I created the Magic "E" Game. The entire class went to the back of the room and sat in a circle. The line leader for the day was in charge of the magic "e" and traveled around the class and placed the "e" behind each of the students' three letter words. This lesson allowed the students recognize how the "e" transforms words by changing the middle vowel's sound.
