Kid-Watching Project

During my language arts methods course, I was given the opportunity to create a complete literacy profile of a student in my methods block placement. The assignment was to collect anecdotal records, perform two interviews to get to know the student's feelings towards reading and writing, conduct running records, and to analyze two pieces of writing. After collecting all of the data, I created a plan of action based upon my student's skills and needs. While creating the literacy profile of my chosen student, I became more aware of both the reading and writing processes. Even though a complete profile of every student in my class is unlikely, I still learned valuable information about how some students process information. I will use bits and pieces from the project in my future classroom when I need to determine how to intervene with certain students.
